Description
The Jutland Agricultural Biochar Programme transforms agricultural residues from Danish farms into stable biochar through advanced pyrolysis technology. Operating three production facilities across Jutland, the programme processes 45,000 tonnes of straw, wood chips, and crop residues annually, converting them into approximately 15,000 tonnes of biochar. This biochar is then applied to agricultural soils, where it permanently sequesters carbon for hundreds of years while simultaneously improving soil fertility, water retention, and crop yields. The project partners with over 120 farms across Jutland and works closely with Aarhus University's Department of Agroecology on ongoing research into biochar soil applications.
