Røyland farm in Bjerkreim combines food production with its own energy system, using sun, wind, water and battery to keep feeding people even when a crisis cuts the power. Each impact credit represents one kilowatt-hour of traceable renewable energy from a specific Norwegian farm.
Meat production is energy intensive, making farms vulnerable when electricity supply is disrupted. Røyland farm located an hour south of Stavanger is building its own energy system to keep producing food through a crisis. 592 solar panels producing an estimated 228,000 kWh a year, small wind turbines, hydropower between two dams, and battery storage that keeps cooling, water and ventilation running when the grid goes down. Part of the property is left untouched for nature.
